The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics aims to train dietitians who know the scientific foundations of nutrition practices and specialize in the treatment of diseases associated with nutrition. Students of the Department gain competence beyond their own disciplines with the teaching method and contents constructed within the scope of the multi-faceted education concept. With the mandatory internship, students can put their knowledge into practice and gain professional experience.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics can work in various public institutions, schools, social service institutions, hospitals, nurseries and kindergartens with the title of “Dietitian”. Graduates can also continue to pursue academic careers by continuing their graduate studies.
The increasing scientific evidence showing the relationship between food and health since the beginning of the history of humanity has clearly demonstrated the importance of Nutrition and Dietetics in terms of the maintenance of health and treatment of various diseases.
Dieticians are the sole authorized representatives of the Nutrition and Dietetics discipline. Dieticians earn this title and have the authority to practice this profession by completing at least a 4-year Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in universities.
The objective of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is;
- • To train qualified Dieticians with professional and ethical values who:
• Research, evaluate, find solutions to health problems caused by food and nutrition,
• Make food analyses, ensuring that the food resources and economy of Turkey are used in accordance with health rules,
• Inform and raise the awareness of individuals and society about nutrition,
• Plan appropriate nutrition therapies according to medical and surgical treatments in special cases such as diseases,
• Determine the nutritional status of the society and search, suggest and implement solutions for improving the nutritional level of Turkey,
• Help and lead in determining the food and nutrition policies of Turkey,
• Manage, organize, give education, implement and monitor the healthy food services in organizations providing mass nutrition services.
